APOPKA _ Clearing just north of the State Road 429/414 Connector Road is well underway as part of building Wekiva Parkway Section 1A. The Central Florida Expressway Authority began construction on its first parkway section – from near US 441 to Ponkan Road – on June 8, 2015. Other activities underway are:   demolition, silt fence installation and wrapping up the relocation of gopher tortoises, a keystone species. As of June 30, 133 gopher tortoises have been relocated as required by state permit.
