APOPKA - After a brief ribbon cutting noting the long journey to develop this groundbreaking project, the Central Florida Expressway Authority on July 27 opened it's first five miles of the Wekiva Parkway. CFX began opening the lanes from the State Road 429 Connector Road to Kelly Park Road at 3 p.m., with all lanes open by 3:30 p.m.
Toll collection will begin on these sections at 5 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017. Some work will be ongoing to finish these sections, with lane closures and other traffic impacts continuing to be needed. Stay tuned here and follow the project on Facebook and Twitter for real-time updates.

No through traffic will be allowed on the Connector Road at SR 429 during this operation. This work will require closing the SR 429 northbound left-turn lanes at the Connector Road at night. The SR 429 northbound right-turn lane onto the Connector Road will remain open to provide access to Plymouth Sorrento Road and US 441.
Motorists on Plymouth Sorrento Road who wish to go south on SR 429 must turn right onto US 441, and then turn right onto the Connector Road to access the southbound SR 429 ramp.
Flaggers will direct traffic and electronic message boards are posted to alert drivers. Bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances could delay or prolong work. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction area for their safety and that of the work crews.

Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Marks Five Miles
Of New Expressway
(APOPKA, FL) – The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is holding a brief ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of its first five miles of the Wekiva Parkway (State Road 429) on Thursday, July 27, from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. The ceremony will include remarks from area dignitaries highlighting the history and significance of this long-awaited mobility solution.
Sections 1A and 1B, totaling $102.6 million in construction costs, extend from where the SR 429 currently ends at the Connector Road near US 441, to a new interchange at Kelly Park Road. The 5-mile stretch includes interchanges near US 441 at Connector Road and Kelly Park Road, along with bridges at Southfork Drive, Yothers Road, Ponkan Road and other locations.
Work began in the summer of 2015. This section of the parkway is expected to provide a much-needed alternative to local roads, including Plymouth Sorrento Road.
EVENT ACCESS: Attendees should enter at the Kelly Park Road southbound on ramp to the parkway just west of Plymouth Sorrento Road. Take the parkway south of the Yothers Road bridge. The event will be held under the next bridge at Belgian Street. Parking will be available along the southbound parkway shoulders.
Event attendees should adhere to all remaining safety signs and devices.

SORRENTO _ Crews are scheduled to close State Road 46 from east of Round Lake Road to Swan Road on Tuesday night, July 25. The closure is scheduled from 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. so crews can pour concrete on the bridge over SR 46 as part of the Wekiva Parkway (State Road 429) project.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured via Round Lake Road, Wolf Branch Road and County Road 437 to get back to SR 46. A portion of SR 46 between CR 437 and Swan Road will be open to local traffic only.

The Florida Department of Transportation hosted 84 people on May 23 at the Wekiva Parkway Section 5 Pre-construction Public Information Workshop at Camp Challenge in Sorrento. Among those in attendance were George Gadiel, Lake County Engineering and Public Works; Gallus Quigley, Lake County Parks and Trails Division; Lt. Aldrich and a couple others with Lake County Fire and Rescue.
Some community members expressed concerns about project impacts to entrances, proximity, noise and visibility. Many others were excited about the overall project and soon-to-be-improved access to SR 429. A number of people were interested in the parkway trail.
Section 5 construction is scheduled to begin June 5.
