Flyover Bridge at S.R. 46 and U.S. 441 to Open
Expected to improve safety and access to Wekiva Parkway
Mount Dora, Fla. – A new flyover bridge in Mount Dora is expected to open to traffic as soon as Wednesday afternoon, September 2. Not only will this new bridge improve safety, but also improves access for drivers to Wekiva Parkway. Drivers will now have easy and quick access to State Road (S.R.) 46 when driving on southbound U.S. 441.
This milestone represents one of many safety and mobility improvements to the S.R. 46 corridor in Lake County. Prior to the project, motorists wanting to drive from southbound U.S. 441 to eastbound S.R. 46 had to turn left across multiple lanes of traffic at a non-signalized intersection.
The flyover bridge will now allow safe, continuous flow, without stopping at a traffic signal, for motorists headed to the Wekiva Parkway. Drivers headed to locations such as Sanford, Sorrento, and Mount Plymouth will need to be in the right lane before approaching S.R. 46 to exit onto the ramp to the flyover bridge. Local traffic can still make a left turn at the traffic signal.
Please continue to use caution in this active construction zone. Remember to always drive alert and avoid distractions while driving.
The Wekiva Parkway (S.R. 429) will connect to S.R. 417, completing the beltway around Central Florida, while helping to protect the natural resources surrounding the Wekiva River. Section 3A and 3B, one of the non-tolled improvement projects, includes safety and mobility enhancements such as widening both S.R. 46 and U.S. 441 to six lanes, the addition of bike lanes and sidewalks, lighting, and upgraded intersections.
Media inquiries should be directed to the FDOT Communications Office at FDOT-D5COMM@dot.state.fl.us or by phone at 386-943-5593.
Schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen events.
