New S.R. 46 Traffic Pattern To Follow Nighttime Lane Closures

December, 2018

SORRENTO, FL _ Crews are scheduled the nights of December 13 & 14 to conduct single lane closures on State Road (S.R.) 46 from Hojin Street to S.R. 429 as part building the Wekiva Parkway. During the lane closures, scheduled from 7 p.m. – 6 a.m., traffic in both directions will alternate through one lane.

The lane closures are needed for paving and striping. Once that work is complete, S.R. 46 traffic will shift onto a new alignment near Camp Challenge Road (see green route on map below). The new traffic pattern will require motorists to stop at a flashing traffic signal at a new T-intersection before continuing on S.R. 46.  The change also provides new S.R. 46 access to Camp Challenge Road.

Flaggers will direct traffic and electronic message boards are posted to alert drivers. Please note this schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction area for their safety and that of the work crews.

Wekiva Parkway Section 5, one of the Florida Department of Transportation’s non-tolled road projects, will relocate a portion of County Road (C.R.) 46A away from the Seminole State Forest. This $9.9 million project is intended to improve connectivity between wildlife habitats and reduce the risk of collisions between vehicles and wildlife.

C.R. 46A is being realigned 2.5 miles from north of Arundel Way to connect to S.R. 429 east of Camp Challenge Road. Work includes building a multi-use trail along the S.R. 46 portion of the project, and a new signalized, T-intersection at C.R. 46A and S.R. 46.

Work began on this section on June 5, 2017, and is expected to finish by late 2019.
