FDOT Section 5 SR 46 Single Lane Closures, Alternating Traffic Scheduled

August, 2017

(SORRENTO, FL) – Crews will conduct single lane closures on State Road (S.R.) 46 near Camp Challenge Road from Tuesday, August 8, through Friday, August 11. The closures scheduled from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. will allow clearing and land preparation as part of building the Wekiva Parkway (State Road 429).  Traffic in both directions will be alternated through one lane during this time.

Flaggers will direct traffic and electronic message boards are posted to alert drivers. Weather or other unforeseen circumstances could delay or prolong work. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction area for their safety and that of the work crews.

Wekiva Parkway Section 5, one of the Florida Department of Transportation’s non-tolled road projects, will relocate a portion of County Road (C.R.) 46A away from the Seminole State Forest. This $9.9 million project is intended to improve connectivity between wildlife habitat and reduce the risk of collisions between vehicles and wildlife. Work began on this section on June 5, 2017.

C.R. 46A is being realigned 2.5 miles from north of Arundel Way to connect to S.R. 429 east of Camp Challenge Road. Work includes building a multi-use trail along the S.R. 46 portion of the project, and a new signalized, T-intersection at C.R. 46A and S.R. 46. Work is expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.
