(SORRENTO, FL) -- The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) will begin building its fifth and final section of the Wekiva Parkway (State Road 429) on August 1, 2016. Work on the nearly two-mile Section 2A is scheduled to finish in January 2018.

This $38.65 million project will be located north of Haas Road between Plymouth Sorrento Road and County Road 435 (Mount Plymouth Road). Section 2A will connect to Section 2B, the systems interchange, to the west, and to the Florida Department of Transportation’s Section 4A to the east. Work will include new bridges over Morris Access Road, a Florida Gas Transmission easement and CR 435.

Section 2A includes Pine Plantation, one of several large parcels purchased for conservation as required by the 2004 Wekiva Parkway and Protection Act. Once construction on Section 2A is complete, the temporary ramp onto the parkway from CR 435 will be removed.

The Wekiva Parkway features all electronic tolling for the greatest customer convenience. There are no toll plazas, so motorists don’t have to slow down or stop to pay their tolls. There will be a toll gantry on this section.

Nearly 30 years in the making, the Wekiva Parkway is a cooperative effort between CFX, the Florida Department of Transportation and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. The five CFX Wekiva Parkway sections, located in Orange County and a small portion in Lake County, total 10 miles and more than $270 million in construction costs.

Once completed, the 25-mile parkway will complete Central Florida’s beltway, while helping to protect the natural resources surrounding the Wekiva River.
