The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) began construction on its next section of the landmark Wekiva Parkway (State Road 429) on January 4, 2016. Work on Section 2B – a multi-level interchange northwest of Plymouth Sorrento Road and Ondich Road - is scheduled to finish in January of 2018.
Initial activity involves the excavation and relocation of gopher tortoises, a protected species, from the work zone. This latest section will connect to Section 1B – from Ponkan Road to the Kelly Park Road interchange – already under construction. Section 1B is scheduled to open to traffic in spring of 2017.
